The bullet from the sniper(s) behind Trump would have hit the shooter in the left check and gone out behind the right ear. The rest of the shooter's body would have been just slightly down hill on that notoriously slopely roof. Unless somehow his heart kept beating without most of his brain whatever blood was in his head would have been misted out into the air and spread out in a large area down the roof. It was a windy day there too.
The slope isn't that great but you are likely correct if the bullet wasn't deflected by the impact with his skull. An FMJ bullet would have zipped through his skull and should have an impact, possibly great enough, to penetrate the building some where behind him. With FMJ there would not have been a very large exit wound. A hollow point or ballistic tip would have left a hole you could almost put a fist in, and the blood would have been everywhere.

Hence the FBI hosing off the roof?

That building is a pretty large slopey slope. The SS could not even get on top of it. /s
