I gave up my TV, four years ago! I try to minimize all their forms of intrusion! All cameras blacktaped. Do you know patented tech can make you change your mood only when you get home, using vibrations sublimly emitted by your smart tv! Patents from 2009. You and wifey having daily quarrels can now be remotely instigated!

While I agree with the rest of it, the quoted part is not true at all. The media could already lie to the American people, and it was totally legal. This statement above is exactly what is "fact checked" by the "fact checkers," and in this case, it is totally legit. I think the above statement was made (or put out by a CIA agent)( specifically so that the fact checkers could sink their teeth in.
It is true that the 2012 NDAA revision made it legal for the government to use the media to spread propaganda. It is false that it allowed them to lie. They have never had any restrictions on truth or falseness.
Could you imagine a world where you were only allowed to speak the truth? I mean, how could you ever comply? Nothing anyone says is ever completely true. Sometimes information is just unknown. Sometimes it is speculative. Sometimes it is misremembered. Sometimes it is fabricated. But people tell non-truths constantly. A "truthsayer" world would be horrendous. Everyone would be afraid to even open their mouths.

To me lying and propaganda are one and the same. Propaganda just means you know it's not true but telling it anyway. What's the difference?
The difference is the media could already do all those things. There have never been any restrictions on the media. The NDAA reboot didn't change that. What it did was change what the government could do, how the government could "encourage" the media to run specific stories of it's design.
Even there, it was already happening and had been for forever. Government propaganda never stopped running. The Church Commission found that out in great detail. Another commission (forget the name) in the early 90s found out that that situation never changed, and the promises of the CIA to desist were lies.
All HR4310 did was make the actions of the DoD, CIA, etc., that had been illegal since 1948 (but never actually stopped) legal again. This means that it made it legal for the GOVERNMENT to push propaganda, through the media, legally.
This eliminated the need for explaining away those pesky congressional investigations, because now there couldn't be one, because it wasn't illegal.

Yes. The point is, it had nothing to do with the media directly, just the government. By confusing the issue with false claims like "it made it legal for the media to lie," it distracts from what it really did, and gives fact checkers a real path to "debunk" it.
In other words, that phrase itself is fuckery, almost certainly put out there by the CIA.
