Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
that sounds good:) what kind of shrimp do you use? I'm in the upper Midwest, not sure if I even know what proper shrimp tastes like🤔
I usually buy mine from H-E-B, and their brand is usually pretty good. It's wild caught large shrimp already deveined but shell on and then I take it home and remove the shell myself just because it is cheaper that way, then I just saute it with garlic and butter and lemon juice for about 3 minutes on each side then throw it on top of my cheesy, bacon-y, green onion-y grits ... now I'm hungry LOL.
thanks for the details! have never tried grits before, will have to buy some. and have also heard good things about other H-E-B foods; cheese, pasta, etc.
thought for sure it was a bigger chain, but it's only in Texas...looks like our reasons for a Texas road-trip are adding up 🐸
I was born and raised in Texas, but my husband and I got married right out of high school and moved to Arizona for a while and there we always shopped at Basha's or Fry's. I try to always choose the closest thing to local as I can. In Texas, H-E-B is my absolute favorite, and the bonus is that it is local to Texas only. They are starting to offer more organically grown items under the H-E-B label and grown in San Antonio Texas, which I occasionally email them and thank them for offering healthier choices under the H-E-B brand and also creating Texas jobs by growing and manufacturing right here in our home state. I figure writing to the companies that we shop at and helping to guide them in the products they offer is the least I can do LOL.
that's a great idea🐸 I've seen quite a few local businesses really stepping up because of positive FB reviews. encouragement helps. more flies with honey than vinegar;) and we enjoy camping & taking road trips, we're 12-13 hours north, definitely doable. will start making my grocery list, would be a good place to go when it gets cold up here.
