Many of the ideas that have come to plague us in Modern Day. Were at least originally put to paper in the decade or two immediately prior to and during the opening years of the French Revolution. Of which various occult and secretive groups heavily influenced. Likely attempting to replicate their relative success with helping create and set the circumstances for the American Revolution.
And they have since heavily influenced if not outright replaced many of the original notions that originally led to the American Revolution in modern Western thought. Coloring almost every political idea and philosophy we have today.
