You pretty much can't make other people - adults, at least - do anything unless they are at least to some extent willing participants. The way con men cheat others is to make them think they thought of it themselves, or that they participated of their own free will.

That also seems to be why one way to change somebody's mind is said to keep asking questions, not in an aggressive manner, but as if you were truly curious and trying to understand, and want them to explain that whatever to you. Doesn't work with everybody of course, but at least some may start to dig for the more thorough explanation themselves, or try to see if something is true or verifiable, and then finally "see for themselves" and due to the way they found out, actually finally believe.
