A Few Years ago I bought a 2,000-dollar IPad, looked great, lots of nifty features, etc... I did all the startup stuff including facial recognition. Then I set the tablet aside for when I'd actually need it. So a few months down the line I got it out and tried to log in. I forgot the pin and gradually got the login attempt delays. Eventually, it wanted me to do near-field using my iTunes account. I had changed internet providers several times including abroad, and I hadn't used iTunes in a decade. I don't buy music anymore.
So I go to the Apple store and wished to return it, but they wouldn't take it back until corporate unlocked it online, a few days process. I ended up buying a Galaxy 9 tablet for 200 bucks, it served my purpose. I don't need a device that I can accidentally lock up and not access. I can reset the 200 tablet and reinstall the software. WTF was all the facial recognition crap, if Apple doesn't use it to log in or at least reset it?
I didn't set out to buy an iPhone, I'd returned from abroad and my old phone would only do calls and text for some reason. So Metro PCS had a bring your number and get an iPhone for 50 bucks Promo (50 being a rebate, which you never get)) so 100 bucks. That was in 2020, only Apple anything I'd bought until the tablet. I'm not an Apple fanboy, but a decent Phone for 100 bucks was a good deal. When it was stolen and my company replaced it, they told me to buy the same phone, so I did.
I don't have good vision and I don't use the phone that much. Uber is the only financial activity, and I use the mass transit app to track when the bus is coming. I'm not a phone junky at all, but I have my computer on all the time when home.
You are right about weird people, and it extends to the people who work in their stores, very weird, a cult... Heh heh
