Currently, my SS has been suspended due to overpayment starting with July check and I owe them almost 12K back from last year's overpayment. Even with no overtime, I'd have an overpayment of 7k since I'm earning 17 an hour (35k) and the below FRA salary cap is currently 22,300. They also withhold SS from my pay and I pay income tax on it...
I'm just working as a security guard and 17 bucks is about average here. My SS is only 1256 and our rent is 1998 a month. WTAF am I supposed to do besides work OT when I* can get it lol? Luckily I have a wife who works and pitches in. So the 12K I owe is from last year, and I'll be over the cap this year by around the same amount, but they suspended my SS and I'm not sure how that will affect my overpayment amount. Worst case I will owe another almost 12k.
Thank God this is the last year for the salary cap, because I will reach FRA next May, and the salary cap balloons above what I will earn in your last year. If I don't pay them back all the overpayment then I assume they will start my SS back up, and then take the check until they have the money back.
So yeah, SS doesn't need to be taxed and there should be no earned income salary cap for collecting before FRA, they don't care if your income from non-earned income is a Billion bucks. You get less for collecting early.
My current plan is to pay the 12k soon then wait and see what happens next year when Trump is back.
