Not theology quite true.....
If you are truly saved the fruit of that would be living it but there are zero works that are necessary for salvation. It is by faith alone.
.i.e. The thief on the cross or a person making a deathbed confession has zero works attached.
Repentance and faith in Jesus Christ is all that scripture requires BUT it must be genuine faith.
Many will claim to be Christians with works aplenty but on the last day God will say "Depart from me, I never knew you"
Well, we agree that it must be a genuine faith. And you are correct, there is no qualifying deed to be done in the case of death bed confessions. But if you simply convert and do not act as a Christian for your remaining life I think you'll be getting the "never knew you" message.
every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Corinthians 3:13-15
If you become saved through John 3:16 (believe on Christ), but live a crappy life, the result is your rewards in heaven are diminished.
Well, you DO actually have to live it as well, but close enough.

But you still make it to heaven.
