Admittedly Hunter "forgetting" those laptops has always looked kind of weird. Like he wanted to get caught.
So, well, if it was deliberate one alternative might be that he has enough decency left in him that he doesn't like what he is and yes, wanted to be caught because he has been unable to stop doing what he has been doing himself, maybe because daddy (at least the original version) had too much influence, or who knows, was even threatening him with some of his more serious younger misdeeds being exposed if he tried to do anything like that.
Or he made a deal with the WHs for some reason or another. They caught him first and offered that as a way out with less severe punishment, he realized that they were winning and asked for that deal, who knows.
And who knows, there might even be the possibility that he has been one of the good guys for a long time, spying for them and pretending to be the mess he seems to be because he was good enough to figure out he didn't like what his family was involved with early on and managed to get in touch with people fighting against people like them.
There have to be moles on both sides, from both sides, that is just the nature of the story, people willing to pretend even for most of their adult lives to be something they are not, and for the WH ones, possibly to lose their reputations permanently because not all of them might be able to get those restored even if the WHs win. Hell, even Joe himself might be in that group for all we know. Even if Joe is still the original Joe.
Oh well, we may find out at least some of what has been going on in the backstage while we are seeing only the stage area some day.
Or not.
But my guess is that we will never be told everything.
Hunter probably has had a real jacked up relationship with his dad for decades. He was always the "Fredo" of the family. Beau was the one who was picked to be Joe's successor in politics and business. My guess is the Good Guys offered Hunter a sweet plea deal to rollover on his old man.
The laptop bit bothered me as well. Why in the hell would anyone, except a complete dolt, drop off a laptop with tons of incriminating evidence, at Joe's Computer Repair Shop? Especially given his family and connections. The Biden family doesn't know any discreet contractors who could fix Hunter's laptop and keep their mouths shuts about it?
