Sure, but if he wants to do business, which I'm sure he does, he does have to follow European law. This is the nature of the threat by the EU here. And aside from having X blocked, they could simply have him arrested for breaking their laws, which effectively bans him from going to any EU country.
Now, the thing is, they're a bunch of pussies who will almost certainly do nothing, lest they risk pissing off their social media addled citizens, so in this case Elon made the perfect choice. I guess I'm just a little autistic and felt like pointing this out.
Though I suppose it brings up an interesting question here on globalism. Obviously they want to be able to create their homogenous, global society, which is why they want to control companies like this, but then again, it's hardly globalism, because it's different countries with different rules, and it's the company that decides to venture into these different country's markets. So what is the alternative? Proper globalism would be One Law to Rule Them All, which is no good, but if a company could do business overseas with impunity that would certainly constitute a form of globalism, since it would mean that American companies could act with impunity worldwide while only being beholden to America, who has a vested interest in its companies being the best and most successful. So thinking about it, it would seem to me that what we have right now is as far from a globalist system as it could get, at least regarding the way companies operate overseas.
I think ultimately it comes down to this. He was the richest man in the world before he even bought Twitter. He’ll still be the richest man in the world without it. I don’t think he gives a single shit what other countries threaten and couldn’t care less about doing business with them. He’s going to operate X like an American and if they wanna block X, fuck em. Just my two cents on the matter.
To do business in Europe? Of course.
Elon can tell them to piss off. They can block the people of the country from accessing the website. But they can’t force him to follow their laws.
