Even if you just grant that price increases are solely due to greed (which is not true), then laws like this still don't make sense.

Just make a law about what % you are allowed to profit on goods and services. Price fixing only makes people go out of business and then the community has nothing. (Not advocating for any laws like that, just pointing out that would be more sensible than price fixing)
