At our base, the commander said to carry your firearms to base.. keep them in your car of course at work. said he didnt want people waiting at gate to be unarmed if shooting happened. Before, policy was No firearms, unless going to range....
This brings to mind Fort Hood and the Navy Yard shootings. Military bases and no guns. I worked on a test base where personnel, military and civilian, where pilots and mechanics and engineers were trusted with multi million dollar equipment that could crash with a piece of FOD or on purpose with a crazy pilot, but these people couldn't be trusted with a firearm. Never made sense to me. We were sitting ducks, just like random shoppers at Walmart.
I was told it was clinton who banned sidearms. Ridiculous.

I have never understood the disallowance of firearms to trained military on base.
They can be trusted to go to war alongside each other, but not to remain armed on base?
