A Mother was told her 31-year-old daughter was discharged from a California hospital—but a year later her daughter’s body was found in the morgue.
Now, the family is suing for more than $5M after discovering the California hospital failed to disclose to them their daughter had died in their care.
Jessie Marie Peterson had been suffering from Type 1 diabetes when she was admitted to Mercy San Juan Medical Center near Sacramento on April 6th 2023.
The last time the mother spoke to her daughter was on April 8, 2023, when she called her mom and asked to be picked up from the hospital. Her daughter had been admitted two days earlier, on April 6, 2023, for a diabetic episode, but her daughter was pronounced dead less than two hours after she called her mother, and her body was transferred to a cold storage facility the next day.
Her mother contacted the hospital a few days later and was told her daughter had been discharged against medical advice.
The family then filed a missing person's report, but it wasn’t until April 2024, that California Detectives notified the family that they found their daughter was in the morgue at the hospital that claimed to discharge her a year earlier. Her death certificate was filled in a year after her death and her cause of death was listed as cardiac arrest.
Sounds suspicious: death by heart attack?
