How do you think you could know that? It may be that with an infinite past we could exist at any point in the sequence of events. No matter what we always find ourselves in the now.
But if you exist at a point, then the amount of time prior could not have been infinite.
There’s additional time after the point of your existence, right? Well if there is additional time AFTER the point of your existence, then the amount of time BEFORE your existence could not have been infinite.
Fun thought experiment:
If I promise to give you a $100 after an infinite amount of time has passed, would you ever get the $100?
If an infinite amount of time has passed in order for us to get to this point, how are we at this point?
This implies it is not possible for an infinite amount of time to have passed, thus the universe had a beginning.
Philosophy rather than theology, but I find it fascinating.
You forgot something, since time and space exists only in your mind, there is no infinite time.
If time and space exist only in my mind, then you only exist in my mind. 🤯
exactly.
And besides is what you are your body?
If an infinite duration of time has already passed I would get it now. Want my P.O. box number?
That’s the point - in order for it to be infinite, we could never reach this point. It would make the amount of time finite.
