Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
So something just occurred to me about GME.
If the MOASS happens and the stock goes TO THE MOON!...
What if Computershare does what Robinhood did and just prevents people from selling shares? Betraying us?
Yeah, yeah, I know, HODL to screw over the hedge funds that shorted GameStop. But my family is broke. We can't afford to HODL.
I know the few shares I (currently) have are not enough to stop the MOASS, but I bought in because I wanted to help my family and my Social Security disability only helps a little.
In any case, my point is, I fear Computershare betraying us, since I used them to buy it because they DRS shares automatically.
Granted, I don't think this will happen--if what I'm reading at r/Superstonk is true, then at the MOASS, they'll WANT you to sell, and may offer inflated prices to do so. That's what I'm counting on. Call me a sellout if you must, but you don't have a driveway that's in such dire need of repair that it's sinking below the road.
Maybe I'm overthinking it. This is just a what-if.
I'm also on social security disability benefits and I've been thinking of getting a few shares but I was concerned that Social Security will cut my benefits due to me owning a few stocks.
I do file taxes yearly so I was wondering if there's any issues with me owning stocks while on social security benefits and whether I'm supposed to report this on my taxes yearly?
Like you, we're tight on money and if owning stocks like GME, will lead to more money issues, then I rather not do something like this.
I'm positive about the future but I do not want my family to suffer with a lot of setbacks due to us owning some stocks, if you know what I mean?
I hope I made this clear?
Sell when you see a price you like. Maybe even sell a few on the way up,to lock in some nice tendies. I'm not concerned much about computershare, but I also keep shares with my broker,to spread out the risk.
Do what you have to do. You are not a sell out. You’re taking care of yours.
Amen.
Okay, I have to ask, since I'm new at this: What was "The Sneeze"?
24.89 on overnight tradeing
Oh, you mean that minor short squeeze, where GME surged to about $450 a share?
That's a lot, but it's not my price.
Higher.
