Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Alien: Romulus opened today in Japan at last. It was a real love letter to the first two movies, which are the only ones I care about. 95% good, I think. They matched the atmosphere perfectly. That Alien: Isolation game taught a major lesson to Hollywood, that it is possible to make a movie about the future and not make everything look like a frickin' Apple store where everything is slick and has holograms and shit like Prometheus did. I wish that Blade Runner sequel could have followed this pattern.
Blade Runner is my favorite movie, and the Final Cut is perfection. But when I first heard that a sequel was coming, I knew that Hollywood would mess it up. I wanted to see flickering CRT monitors, buzzing neon signs, and harsh fluorescent lights. I knew that we wouldn't get it, and that instead we'd get holograms, explosions, and flying car chases. It turns out that my predictions came true.
So Alien 3 was a big middle finger to the fans by tossing beloved characters in the trash, decades before Disney did the same with their lousy Star Wars movies. Alien 3 couldn't even get the sound effect of the pulse rifles right. Resurrection was fun and had some cool ideas, but as far as I care, only the first two movies are good. I avoided Prometheus and Covenant entirely. Although Romulus makes a brief mention of Prometheus, it went in one ear and out the other. Haven't seen it; don't want to. I never intend to pop that cherry.
Watched it three days ago and I agree with your review. Ian Holm's Estate was paid to use his youthful image. That helped bring back the original Nostalgic feeling.
