Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Honestly, why send them to any of this preschool crap? Keep them home and send them for grade 1 (or prep)
I'm lucky I guess to have kept her out last year. She won't be 4 yo until the 15th of this month. I told her Momma that by the time she gets to High School she will most likely be sick of it. The Mom thinks she is freeing up my time (I suppose) to save her some money. We will see.
Oh Mary, I feel your pain. I hope you are in a conservative area, small town like. Otherwise I would do anything I could to home school. I even feel that way about my grand puppy - to get into dog obedience class. Not that those are similar, or are they? But having just seen your interactions on this forum, I know your granddaughter has had a beautiful upbringing so far. God bless you for stepping in. Keep up the good work!
In Kentucky we do not have any Gun Free Zones. Our State has a POLICE OFFICER in every school. They have their vehicles parked out front. Most of our schools have double doors with a camera. You must push the buzzer until someone asks you what you want. Then they will buzz you in. Our teachers are NOW ALLOWED to have a concealed weapon in their classroom. We don't know who they are, but they must go to a shooting range and pass the course. We don't have any of this DEI stuff and a bunch of the 'crap' they talk about on television. However if Andy Beshear has his way, it could all change. I know his father Steve Beshear who was our Governor back in the mid to late 90's; just guessing, is probably turning over in his grave. He was very hard core against child abuse, and if you're a leftist today, then you have to join the evil doers. My granddaughter will be okay. It will be her turn for Memaw to go over her weekly nursery rhyme with her like I did her brother. That's what we did every morning while we waited for the bus. The only thing parents are fighting now is the merging of both our High Schools which they are building a Mega High School which the school board passed without any parents being at the meeting. They didn't tell the parents.
