Nowadays, no one should be in public alone, without their friends or family.
I've seen videos of people trying to kidnap teenagers and adults.
I saw a video of a father and mother crossing the street together at the crosswalk. The mother was holding their infant in her arms. Another man, crept up behind them, ran at the woman and tried to rip the infant out of her arms. Of course the father reacted and chased the man. But you would think that would not happen when mom and dad are right there.
When my sons were small I loved taking them to playgrounds. I don't know if a mother can do that anymore without another adult to help if something goes wrong. I remember, as a child, whenever something truly weird almost happened to me, I was alone, without my friends.
When i was 14 (looked 12) I won a trip to santa cruz boardwalk with a group of other paper route carriers for selling subscriptions to the newspaper. While in the restroom some man with a short beard approached me saying he has a nice cabin up in the woods I could go with him to hang out, really nice place he said. Said no and ran out the door. Man did I dodge a bullet from this pervert. That was back in the 60's. Stay close to your kids, stay away from strangers.
I remember one time when I was about 10 I was riding my bike on the streets near my home and some random car with two middle-aged people, a man and a woman, came up to ask me for directions. Being a young kid I couldn't really give good directions to anywhere, so why they came up to me for directions, instead of finding an adult, is very weird and sketchy, especially since I was alone with nobody else around. I tried to give them directions, didn't do a good job, and thankfully they left. I raced back home and stayed inside for the rest of the day.
I think I remembered in the back of my mind the abduction case of Jaycee Duggard and how she was snatched up by two middle-aged people, a man and a woman, in a car on her way to school. I heard about that case before and I think just knowing about it helped me understand how serious a situation like talking to strangers in a car could become. I think my Guardian Angel was also doing overtime to protect me.
