Just my 2c, probably a lot more to it but would make a lot of sense, unlike the last one which was far too close for comfort.

Because the fact of an attempt galvanizes support for GEOTUS and is worth millions in free publicity. GEOTUS understands marketing and being dangled as bait has garnered him millions in free publicity ?
Not a chance - he isn't that stupid. If he did that and was caught he would likely instantly lose 90%+ of his supporters for good.
If it was a sting operation that would be different, but if he pulled a stunt for publicity it would be over for him.
I do t think it was a stunt for publicity but the publicity won’t hurt his campaign
