The advent of dueling pistols that had better penetration and accuracy made dueling a literal bloodbath that often left the families of both parties bereaved, often destroyed businesses and generally wasn't good for society. Also courts got setup so elites can just pay their way out of the consequences for shitty conduct. Imagine going three rounds at ten paces with a modern semi auto firearm. Violence is not the answer, enforcing and patching existing laws is. Would you have it so a pedophile who put in plenty of range time would essentially be allowed to rape whoever they want and then walk free after a show of skill?
You know a bit about dueling... but idiotically think dueling would completely replace the legal system? Who said anything about that? Also, you just assume dueling was only done with firearms. Wrong again. Dueling predates the invention of firearms by centuries.
Dueling was a way to settle personal grievances not covered by the law. Also, it did not have to be to the death. It could instead be fought to "first blood", etc.
It led to a much more polite society, since stupid behavior had potentially serious consequences. Of course, weak people fear any of that type of personal accountability. Relax. I doubt it would ever be reintroduced, so you don't have to be afraid.
That was then. What the fuck does that have to do with how things are NOW?
