Yep, the sad reality is that when you have a working system, going from public to private or vice versa is never gonna end up well. Public -> private means a few oligarchs will scope up everything and corruption will be rampant. Private -> public tend to centralize many independent businesses into one large corrupt entity.
Centralization is the enemy that breeds corruption and monopolies.
The majority of the former USSR nations would be better off back just being Russia.
