One day-week in the life of a cop is probably more trauma than the average person experiences in a lifetime. They need more support, salary, mental health services, respect, and less hours.
Agreed, Fren. It takes courage and strength, from a position of authority or power. A celebrity coming out and coming clean about the evil in their own industry. A politician willing to lay their career and likely their lives on the line to expose corruption in our government. A school or administrative official exposing the abuse of children or infiltration of perverse political ideology. The examples are numerous and far-reaching. There needs to be more courage and strength -- that which comes from turning to GOD above -- to initiate any positive change. I hope and pray those who represent the badge can come forward to be the spark that starts the cleansing fire. Light is needed to shine into the darkness.
A lot of people with a strong conscience will be injured in traumatic jobs. I even think nurses have PTSD.
I know an ex-fireman. They always get to the scene of a 911 first. Even before ambulances. He said on his VERY FIRST CALL as a fireman, he went to a house where a 10 year old boy had hung himself. Years later, this man was not ok and had fallen into substance abuse.
Often, people in power, acquire it because they want power, not to serve. Many tend to have psychopathic tendencies. My husband was offered a supervisory position 3 times at work and turned them down every time. He didn't want to sell his soul, and knew he would have to at some point, i.e. giving mediocre evaluations to great workers so the company wouldn't have to pay them more.
At this point, there is a great need for people of conscience to take positions of power - politics, leaders, social jobs, jobs of finance, science, medicine, etc.
Good people may not be craving or seeking positions of power for their ego, but humanity needs them.
