Tribalism is inherently flawed because it requires organization to function. To have a tribe, there must be a structured system in place. Without structure, no tribe can exist. However, this structure inevitably forms into a pyramid, with a small group of influencers or leaders at the top.
The problem with tribalism lies in the disconnect between those at the top and the majority at the middle and bottom of the pyramid. Most members of the tribe, positioned in the lower tiers, will likely never meet or truly connect with those at the top. While they may share a common identity as part of the same tribe, in reality, they remain strangers to each other.
This distance creates an environment where those at the top are susceptible to corruption. They have little personal connection or accountability to the people below them, making it easy to exploit or neglect those they don’t know.
Tribalism assumes a deep, personal bond between all members of the group, but in a structured hierarchy, this level of connection is impossible. As a result, the system is bound to break down.
