Someone on PDW was talking about potential silicon mining as well.
There is a quartz mine in Spruce Pine, NE of Asheville. I understand that it is about as pure as can be. Used to make crucibles for cooking computer chips. Vital. Roads and railroad to access Spruce Pine was badly damaged. Not sure how that's coming along. It's bad all over. I was just notified that I may be 1-3 more weeks without power.
