You might find the book Influence by Robert Cialdini insightful. It’s a well-known book among sales and marketing professionals, and it explains how certain automatic triggers (what you could call built-in programming) have been placed within the human species by God to ensure survival.

The issue is that these triggers can sometimes lead to false positives or inaccurate reactions to the world around us. If we're not mindful of how we communicate, these automatic responses can work against us.

One thing President Trump understands well is purposeful communication. He knows how to break through by selecting the right combination of words. However, if he chooses the wrong words, our self-defense mechanisms can kick in and block the message, even if what he’s saying is true.

This is one reason why some people don't believe in certain things, like conspiracies, until they actually happen—regardless of prior warnings.
