On which timeline? Can you tell me without any reasonable doubt that there aren't multiple? Can you tell me without reasonable doubt that time lines might not merge, or be purposefully merged by active agents?
These are staple ideas on the sci-fi scene for a reason. These ideas are completely compatible with physics ("compatible" doesn't necessarily mean supportive, just not dismissive). Of course physics itself is just a model and has nothing to do with reality itself, but even these, our best known (and known to be flawed) models are still compatible with all sorts of potential temporal shenanigans. Who knows what is possible?
I clearly remember Mandela dying when I was a young teenager in jail. Maybe your timeline had him living. Maybe the timelines merged. Maybe an active agent made that happen, either as a subsequent act, or a primary one, to put all of someone's ducks in a row. NCSWIC for some reason.
“There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” Maybe the CORRECT Fruit of the Looms with a cornucopia is not a false memory, but a real one, just perhaps not for everyone. Maybe we are truly "all right."
Good point (not being sarcastic) -- I haven't been favoring any of the multiverse theories lately but that doesn't mean one or more of them isn't mostly on the mark. Your memory of Mandela dying might be accurate (or of course you might be misremembering; perhaps someone else died and it's now Mandela in your memory). And we do know that "recorded history" is often a lie, so . . .
