You mean the wet fleece and then the dry fleece? I see it a little more like a lack of assurance of the power of God after it had been displayed so clearly. But perhaps he was having trouble hearing or believing the Word of God through the Holy Spirit. I believe so much of the revelation of God concerning everyday things is through circumstances and signs that lead us to certain conclusions/truths.
I do alternative health care and I have since the 70's and God has NEVER failed to meet my need for natural alternative treatment information...even for very serious conditions. He usually puts people in my life to give me knowledge or even puts material in front of me revealing truth about treatments...at just the time I need it.
I believe the Holy Spirit speaks in that still small voice that is the Word of God...I do my due diligence to learn all I can, but I find it easy to trust God for answers...at least in an alternative treatment way. This translates to other issues that have nothing to do with medical issues. It is often circumstances that leads me to answers. God is faithful...I find the issue more of obedience to follow the knowledge that He gives in any situation...accepting the Word of God.
It might be interesting to use the Gideon test but I have found that clarity comes when God reveals truth. I am always open to the teaching of the Holy Spirit, and it is quite ex4citing to know that God cares enough about me and my family and my circumstances to give me the knowledge that I need to find my way through this maze that we call life.
I see a lot of signs that don't jive with the consensus of what is commonly accepted as truth on GAW but I don't mind walking to the beat of a different drummer...it is wonderful to know that trusting God is ALWAYS the right way to go. Saying all this...I think God was very patient with Gideon...
Mark 9:23-24
23 Jesus said to him, “If[a] you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
I believe God truly understands that we are human and doesn't fault us in our weakness but rather gives us what we need to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. God is good like that!
Are you familiar with the Gideon test?
I bring it up because I don’t ever knowingly hear the Holy Spirit, but I have seen signs, especially more recently.
In that absence, it may be a way to still step out in faith.
