If you adjusted that chart for age/demographics, you'd notice some very interesting trends. Older folks, who grew up with Huntley/Brinkley in the 1960s, trust the TV as truth. And, of course, libs trust the MSM because it feeds them what they want to hear.
what I find interesting is that it peaked in or around 1976 (depending on a couple of factors, including how often it was polled for, which seems to be every four years, right alongside presidential elections).
It's a shame we don't have more granular data, or else we might be able to see what factor/factors led to the decline. It's too early to be the internet, and too late to be vietnam or JFK (although it could be a delayed effect).
my best guess is it may have had something to do with watergate/nixon.
I’m 70 my friends are 60-80, fifty years in one town. We as a group of We Built USA, do not watch the news on television. In fact I have a tv not sure when it was on last. My news source GAW, x22, lots of talk radio like my favorite Rush, (Bless his soul) All on my lap top.
