A number of us feel that the most severe destruction up in those mountains was caused by dams breaking or otherwise being opened up.
Rising floodwaters from even hurricane rains do not have the blasting destructive force to wipe whole towns off the map and drive shattered pieces of buildings into a lake far below.
That takes a tsunami-like storm surge on the coasts or, if you're in the mountains, a huge sudden blow from a wall of water coming down from a broken, overtopped, or suddenly opened-up dam.
What is your opinion, since you are actually there?
