Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way

I received an email from American Express saying they processed my automatic monthly payment of $129. The thing is though, I only have $14.48 in my checking account. How is it possible that they processed the payment? I sure hope I don't have an overdraft on that checking account.
Are you sure it's really from them? Could be a phishing email...
I just found out today that American Express went ahead took the money out of my account. I had an overdraft in place when I didn't know I had an overdraft. So I went from a balance of $14.48 to a negative balance of $-114.52. I called the bank and they said they can make a stop payment but it will cost me $35. I said, "Yes please go ahead and do that!" In the meantime, I promised to get over to the bank tomorrow in person to make a deposit to get my account back into a positive balance. I should have never agreed to an automatic payment arrangement with American Express. I hope this information can help you or somebody else in the future.
Yes...we've never given anyone access to our accounts and no automatic payments ever. Hopefully you can change this on your account fren..🙏
Yes I'm sure it's from them. So far for me, the only fraudulent emails I've received is from someone claiming to be Xfinity. I receive those quite often. I called my bank a few minutes ago and they said they're not seeing a transaction on their end. I'm hoping it's just American Express's artificial intelligence email sender making a mistake.
Hit reply and look really close at the email address, noting little things like periods in the address....
Obviously don't send anything...
