If its 20k dead I bet I know someone or have met someone in that total. That is so horrible what has happened. FEMA literally tried to stop rescues and supplies.
I've lived here since 1990 except for a small stint in Tennessee in the late 90s, and I can tell you these mountain people are honest folk. They are not lying when they report these things.
The Governor really dropped the ball on the response. Was it his fault 50 trillion gallons of water was dropped by Helene, nope, but the response was tepid at best and I believe on purpose at worst, maybe even worse than that.
It had been raining a LOT before Helene. Duke energy opened the fan in TN without putting out a warning until after the weirdly strong hurricane had already taken out the grid, so there was no chance the people in the dam's path would have a chance to evacuate.
Cooper continues to not allow NG missions. Cooper continues to hold back the NC emergency channels from providing proper support. Trump has done more for the people directly than Cooper, as has Mark Robinson, who was coordinating with the civilian rescue helicopters to pass coordinates of people in need of help.
