Totally not connected. I know pawn shops and fences will pay big money for stolen shiny keys.

This same thing happened last year in my city. The master mailbox key for EVERY resident in the whole city was stolen and they never even changed the keys/locks on residents' mailboxes afterwards!
This happened in 2020.
