Going against the official narrative is not really that big an issue. Rather, it's acting out of coordination with "the group". So having a group around you grants permission. In fact, Japanese will get more power from being in a group than many other cultures, even if that group is not mainstream.
It would still take guts and commitment to do a Trump march, tho, although because he's American, its not that big a deal. (It doesn't threaten the Japanese establishment.)
