Any others out there?
I wonder if a cure doesn't exist for my disease, much like many others, that isn't propagated because it's not profitable.

My son also suddenly came down with type 1 at 16 yrs old. It was shortly after his mother took him to a doctor for a acne treatment." i think that was the cause' I see most of the answers here are addressing type 2. type 1 the pancreas cells are destroyed., meaning they don't make insulin...
There was a recent discovery about T1D just released this year.
They located the trigger that causes the auto-immune response to attack the beta cells in the pancreas.
It’s caused by a specific viral infection that tricks the immune system into attacking beta cells and essentially labeling them as a threat to the body (this is why stem cell treatment and beta cell transplants fail to cure t1d because the immune system essentially labeled them as a threat to the body)
The acne treatment is likely not the cause of t1d, the acne is probably a result of the auto immune disease attacking the body the same way t1d is.
At some point, there was probably some viral infection, could be a very minor one or a small sickness that causes the body to react.
This study that was published is huge because they now know a big piece of the cause which can boost research to prevent t1d and after prevention is knocked out, it is easier to then figure out ways to cure.
The roadblocks I see are pharma companies not wanting to lose out on lifelong insulin sales. But the key here is that they want to prevent t1d, by doing that, if they can make money on preventing each and every child, their market will sky rocket.
That is the only way pharma companies will allow it to be researched and cured because they will have larger profits on preventing all children rather than just the .1% of kids who actually develop it.
You are correct, just like curing cancer, no money in that.
What meds were given that you think caused it?
Not sure it was a while back , but I know it was antibiotic,
