also, Speaking as someone who lived in Iowa for most of my life, it wouldn't be shocking to get hammered with a huge snowstorm outta nowhere. if it's bad enough, ice can literally build up on powerlines and cause them to break.
and that's just one possibility off the top of my head. Keep in mind also that michigan is further north than where I was, so they deal with cold i've never even heard of, lol
