If you're talking about the Hopi's definition of the Apache, I think you are aware that "Indians" have been known to tell a few fibs to "the English", in the past. :) But I liked the story, so I kept it.
My comment about "the other tribe" might get me whacked by those that do not want comments like these, so I'll have to keep it vague.
I was just pointing out I had never come across this one. Normally if they had been enemies in the past one could suspect this. But I am not aware of any wars between the Hope and Apache in the past.
When the New Zealand government asked the Maori tribes to make their claims on NZ's territory, in an effort to restore land to them, the Maoris claimed 400%+ of the land of New Zealand.
Which is to say that it would not surprise me if the tribes in that area (and, really, all over the USA) have conflicting claims on the land.

Ah. Yes.
I was given to the understanding that the Hopi and the Navajo think the Apaches are/were bandits that kept stealing their shit, or something. 🤷♂
I wonder if there are any land disputes ? Or as simple as one pissed off the other at one time ? I would take it with a grain of salt.
