WASHINGTON, D.C. — Democrats are sounding the alarm over Trump's stated plan to shutter the Department of Education, saying such a move would put millions of kids in danger of becoming too smart to vote Democrat.

Look at the test scores and comparison of American students to other nations before and since the dept of ed was created by peanut farmer in ~ 1980.
There was something earlier than that. I remember it from my college years. A first time bill (Act) which gave federal funds to school systems. That enabled educators with ideas to change the system the money to allow it. Federal money for schools was a revolutionary idea. Many warned of where it would go, which was ultimately exactly where it went. Central control of all education.
