Actually the states must certify their electoral votes by Dec. 17. So not quite the New Year. That's the last date they could possibly cheat.
Beyond that, Jan. 6 is the next date where the votes could be contested, but it would have to be based on voting that occurred before Dec. 17 when the states certified the votes.
