Honestly, I think it's too late. Everyone used to know the Redskins. I haven't a clue what the new team is called, and it's not a Washington team. They play in MD and practice in NO VA.
Also, my son stopped watching football over football's desecration of the flag, the anthem and our veterans. He's never returned. So his son will likely never be a fan.
Time was Redskins were the great unifyer in an area divided by politics and residents imported by from everywhere else. That's gone. No parties, no brain dead fans.
I left with your son. Football and almost all sports (not NHRA) can go to hell. The only reason I even bring it up is, the family of the actual dude on the helmet took pride in it. Nobody even asked them about it when they ditched their Grandpa.
I think a lot of the time the players just go along. My relative is a professional Rugby player in the UK for a top team. He told me barely anyone supported taking the knee but it was just to much trouble to oppose it. Fines, getting dropped, not being able to represent your country. Remember these are mostly very young men.

Trump actually legitimately beat Roger Goodell's ass in court, but was sadly only awarded $1, tripled to $3, under antitrust law, for damages - the jury said "they thought Trump had enough money already" Trump beat the NFL like a drum, but we were without Spring Professional Football for almost 20 years...
Remember the nfl required clotshot proof for players and people paying ridiculous prices to enter their dog and pony shows. Fuck the nfl.
NFL can rot as far as I'm concerned. It's all scripted/rigged. Sadly, too many continue to watch that soap opera they call sports. Wearing a MAGA hat is against the rules but it's ok for players to wear BLM crap and politically protest perceived "oppression" while raking in million$/year. Yeah, Goodell & his minions can suck it. Bitter? Yeah, just a little.
I think it shows the MAGA movement is breaking through the zeitgeist in professional sports.
