It's partly symbolic, but the main thing is it sends a signal that America is back in the energy business. The US is sitting on the world's largest natural gas deposits. We may as well use that energy since we have it. No need to buy from others when we can create the jobs and energy here. We were energy dominant under Trump, meaning we were a net exporter of energy.
I am in favor of clean uses of gas and oil. We have the technology to make engines run cleaner, go further, and be more efficient. There is room for using gas and oil while also not dumping pure smog into the air like China does.
As energy comes down, shipping comes down.
Since everything is shipped, costs should come down and this should help with lowering prices, i.e. lower inflation.
We sit on the worlds largest oil reserves as well. Research the Green River shales. There are over 2 trillion barrels in these shales. Thats more oil than has ever been discovered elsewhere plus every drop ever used.
But its not only here. There are huge untapped deposits throughout the west and even in Kentucky and southern Indiana.
And then places that we have been told are tapped out like the Permian Basin wells are refilling which really puts the 'fossil fuels' thing to the test. I am a believer in abiotic oil.
