Somewhat ironically. Republicans and the American Right in general today are closer to being genuine old school style Conservatives than they ever have been before.

For the better part of a century and a half. In the U.S at least. Right and Left have been two sides of the same progressive coin. Owning in somewhat to shared political heritage.

One chasing “Progress” through ever growing and encompassing social reforms. The other through endless technological development and ruthless capitalistic drive. With Tradition and culture being useful politically up to a point. But ultimately something that would ultimately be cast aside if it stood in the way of financial gain and technological development.

And to its credit. We’ve progressed so rapidly in so short a time. We just never had the time to catch up socially or culturally. Now there’s attempts to put the breaks on so we can actually figure things out. Before another wave of progress sends us down other avenues.
