Got two examples from Canada:
Involving policians: The "Sponsorship Scandal" a.k.a. "Adscam" in Canada involving MP Alfonso Gagliano. The Federal Government had a large program to pay for a lot of advertising in Quebec about how wonderful it was to belong to Canada because that province was threatening to separate. Alfonso Gagliano, as Minister of Public Works (1997-2002) in the Liberal Jean Chrétien government, was in charge of the program. Much of the money was directed towards firms friendly to the Liberal Party of Canada, who of course then made large donations to the Libs party with money from the advertising contracts. The scandal resulted in a special commission of inquiry chaired by Judge Gomery ("Gomery Commission") that found Gagliano primarily responsible (though others, including Chrétien himself, were tainted by it). The fallout from this scandal is one of the factors leading to the rise of Stephen Harper as prime minister. Involving bureaucrats: ArriveCAN scandal in Canada. ArriveCAN was an app developed during "covid" to ostensibly speed processing at the Canada / US border. It cost a fortune. From Wikipedia: "On March 1, 2024, it was revealed that David Yeo, a defence department employee and president of Dalian Enterprise, was involved in the ArriveCAN scandal. CBC News reported that his company had received over $200 million in government contracts since 2015, including $7.9 million for the ArriveCAN app." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArriveCAN See also: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-arrivecan-contractor-suspended-department-national-defence/ and https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/companies-at-heart-of-arrivecan-scandal-received-more-than-100m-in-government-contracts
