I agree with you. It is up to the state legislatures to pick the EC. They have all chosen the popular vote model. If they did not create a mechanism to counter vote fraud then the vote for President is valid.

January 6th was designed for one thing. To counter the mechanism that was in place to counter vote fraud. As soon as the so called attack happened the ability for the states to challange the vote was stopped (for saftey of course). The attack did exactly what they wanted it to do.
