Why put Nixon on a pedestal? That's a very pejorative and derogatory, not to mention inaccurate depiction of my position.
But if you need to do that to shore up your confidence in your own view, hey, be my guest.
Do I think Nixon was a patriot? Yes. Do I think he was attacked and targeted by the Deep State Cabal apparatus that also killed Kennedy and which had already hijacked the central flow of American govt and politics? Yes. Do I think he was a perfect individual? No. (If you have met any perfect individuals, please let me know so I can look them up!)
Have you ever stood for public office and then been attacked for it. By forces that murder their opponents? If so, then you have my respect.
I value patriotism and sacrifice highly. And, I have sympathy for those that stand up to do something, in a sacrificial spirit, whether it is running for the hardest job in the world, or volunteering to canvass door to door to register voters.
That's not putting someone on a pedestal, imo.
And, fwiw, In my view, Nixon did NOT have the high ground. Not at all.
Reread your words, my friend. My assessment was accurate based on you musings. What you say is how you are perceived. Particularly in a forum that has no other means of evaluation.

Well, you have a point there. Actually, what people often forget is that 70% of interpersonal communication is actually all extra-language: tone, gestures, expressions, timing, etc. Text is not a great instrument for highly nuances discussion, often. Although it depends on the participants, obviously
But in any case, well, no, I do not "keep" Nixon on a pedestal. Your perception may obviously be different.
I was hoping the discussion might give you food for thought. If not, well no real loss. We can agree to disagree.
Fair enough. I believe we all have the same goals here. Mostly. Close enough. You seem spirited. I trust you would have my back. I can assure you that I would have yours.
I greatly appreciate the discussion. And, I hope that I'm open enough to consider other views (even though like many, I have far too high an opinion of my own opinions).
I trust you would have my back.
I trust so too.
To me, proof of the pudding is an ability to share and discuss opposing views without acrimony, and then, in the end, reinforce mutual solidarity. Because what unites us is far, far greater and more important than what might divide us (opinions and views). Thank you for emphasizing this point!
No. I don't.
