One other thought..my understanding is that prior to religion, sun worship was a natural shared experience worldwide because of the inexplicability, warmth, food, mobility, security, and reliability which led to forming tribes and hierarchies. Hence God was always perceived in various forms of thought and language. Babel and Egypt were a culmination of these, though geographically, pagan and satanic practices were naturally occurring worldwide as splinters of sun worship. God intervened through his chosen people to get us on the right path. Hallelujah.
I can totally see how mankind would consider the sun and moon to be divine. After the fall in Eden, man no longer "walked with God". They walked in darkness. Anything that illuminated that darkness, both physical and spiritual, was then an obvious object of worship. However God begun to reunite Himself with us throughout history, and we see the fierce battles that has produced, as men have been called to separate from their pagan traditions it would appear to be somewhat like separating a drug addict from his substance of choice :(
I think the real problems with such mindsets is the subjectivity of it all. One culture may simply revere the Sun, while another gets the idea that they must also sacrifice their children to it! But God eliminated this subjectivity with His very objective Law and Prophets, and then Christ Himself and the Church!
Over time these objective precepts given by God have permeated the human zeitgiest to such a degree that your average person would find slavery, torture, robbery, human sacrifice etc. utterly repulsive; while in ages past these things were seen as commonplace and I'd imagine most people wouldn't even flinch at them. This permeation is, of course, in sheer spite of the Babylonian "Church" which has run parallel to Christ's Church throughout history. It now dons the name of Christ but in practice it is really nothing more than the amalgamation of every pagan belief all wrapped up into one package, at least from my perspective...
Yes the institution has been used as a primary power seat for too long and is stricken in many ways. I pray it can be cleansed of the pagan elements at the top and in key posts throughout, like our other cherished institutions (US government). With all its problems, Catholicism is one of our greatest religious institutions that shares a daily prayer worldwide; powerful stuff to organize a movement for good. The Great Awakening is truly worldwide and biblical. Good vs. evil. That's why I think it's valuable to look at Revelations beyond borders, and at humankind as a body, or nation.
I don't think an institution like that can be prolonged or reformed. The very concept of such a vast number of people all in submission to one man (the pope), through his pyramid heirarchy below him, is satanic to me and so easily corrupted. America's founding fathers used Biblical principles to set up the form of government we have, in stark contrast to monarchies and oligarchies. Remember, God was not happy when Israel asked for a king. How much more displeased must He be to see His Church want one! The Apostles did not set up such a power structure. The structures they outlined stopped at the top of each local assembly; they never said that vast groups of local assemblies should be networked together in submission to one "mega-bishop" in Rome or anywhere else!
Totally agree. Think it would need a good 'ol counter-reformation and inquisitions on paganism thats handled by local law. It's a big constituency.
