You were lucky. Much older than you, and I had to hide my science fiction books to keep from being ridiculed. Had to check them out on my dad's library card, because it was for "adults only". Read everything my small library had, then when I got my drivers license, went to the next town over. Nobody was into it back then but me and my dad. He loved Star Trek, and we always watched it together. First shows on TV around 1966, when I was only 11 years old.
