Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

Both hips were bad but I was able to replace one. Then my feet started going numb. Thought it was diabetes. It was not. Did a mri it was a spine disc bulging issue. Got injections today. Been having an issue with my only good eye and summed it up to old age and they gave me prescription.
My eye already seems better today and I don’t know if that is possible? Been wearing the prescription so long that not wearing them affects my vision due to be essentially addicted to it, but I can focus without them on a lot easier now.
Since I was a teenager I would always have periodic times when my heels would hurt really bad if I put pressure on them. Never at the same time but I remember when in the military I would drink water and carry on so to speak.
I do know nerves control the feet where the injections are but wonder if that also has some connection to at least my good eye. My other one just hangs out where it wants :)
The eye nerves are controlled by four* of the twelve cranial nerves. These nerves arise directly in the brain and do not traverse the spinal cord. Thus, it is unlikely that a bulging disk would affect vision or eye motor control. On the other hand, improving your overall health and reducing pain could have an effect across your whole body.
*Optic nerve, oculomotor nerve, trochlear nerve and abducent nerve. The first is the sense of sight and the other three control the movement of the eye.

Thank you. It is nice to see people instead of focusing on my typos and most likely incorrect wording, you can still understand the meaning.
Those like you give me hope for humanity.
Ironically, I am somewhat of a grammar and spelling nazi but there are people who have no sense of humor or willingness to learn so I have learned to curb my enthusiasm. I had a boss years ago who had been an executive secretary early in her career. She insisted that any written comms going to the wider corporate community from our organization be reviewed by her. One of my proudest moments came after submitting some documentation to her for review when she told me I didn’t have to have my writing reviewed by her in the future. I felt I had passed an important test.
In any case, I am glad that you have gotten some relief, chronic pain can be literally maddening and I hope you continue to improve.
Thank you.
I have been in telecom for almost 3 decades and was an avionics tech in military.
Some days I am sending comms to people from Russia, Mexico, SA, India and more depending on what type of service i am working on.
It might be a broken mind like mine, but it seems like everyone in telecom makes so many grammatical mistakes. However I can always decipher their meaning and vice vera. My favorite is when I puss off someone in another country and they call me dude. I know how things flow on the internet so when something is broken I will tell them where it is broke and they do not like that.
I completely understand where you are coming from and when I was in college the professor was like that. So I wrote perfect papers that were conservative sided where she would have to give me a perfect score but would harass me in the hallway and say I was worthless.
