Why Can Food Stamps Buy Junk Food? How DOGE Could Save Billions And MAHA

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) pays farmers not to grow food, while at the same time spending most of its budget giving “food stamps” to people who can use them to buy candy, soda, and snacks—at giant retail markups—in corner stores.

SNAP (Food Stamps) is not a social program. It's a program under the Department of Agriculture.

Farming is grueling thankless work.

If the guy farming tomatoes is allowed to to benefit from people spending SNAP benefits on his products why can't the guy growing sugar do the same?

Frankly, sugar is not used in soda - it's HFCS. I don't have a problem with people purchasing sugar to bake with or cook with.
