A salute to the people who lost their lives on the day of infamy 83 years ago, to those who saved lives that day and those who died in service to this country.
I can say The Pearl Harbour Memorial is a humbling and eerie place to visit as i am sure the airfields ( i feel they get lost in the rememberance) are as well, but i never made it there.
My wife and I were there in the late 80's and my brother was serving in the airforce. At that time there were still living survivors telling their stories, and there were still unrepaired bullet holes in some of the buildings. It was truly a sad day in the history of our country.
Sounds like Gettysburg the bullet holes in the building the cannons lined up around the field
I visited Gettysburg a few years ago. Absolutely amazing place of history. I plan on going back in the next year. There were too many places to see within 2 weeks.
Sad day it was, i also enjoyed watching the broadcasts of the stories first of the human spirit and also the national pride.
Not to take away from 7 December, but when you mentioned the bullet holes I thought Of a church between Freehold and Englishtown NJ, Tennent Church. If you go inside you can still see the blood of a soldier on one of the pews there. He was wounded in the Battle of Monmouth just between those two towns during the Revolutionary War. So close, history in my back yard. I lived a few miles down the road from this area on Tennent Rd. and seeing this as a young teen it has always stuck in my memory. I don't think to many people are aware of this Historic Church.
I have been there many times. There is a powerful feeling you get when your out there that I can't really explain. Very humbling.
I agree, I visited while US Navy active and i felt that it could be me.
If the real history about how the start of WW2 began it would point right back to America. I hope we can begin a new way of not getting involved in global conflicts. We need peace on this planet.
I too hope for a new US. After learning of what really happened it angered me and started my distrust of the gvmt, and too not believe all that we r “taught” or brainwashed with.
Your Pearl Harbor Anniversary reminder that it was not only an inside job, but it was an inside job in the truest sense. Many of the explosions came from inside of the ships and the hangers.

It is a beautiful & moving Memorial.
TY cc for the reminder, we should never forget those that made the ultimate sacrifice & paid with their lives for our freedoms 🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸
"We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm." ---Winston Churchill
Is something to remember. we moored up across from the memorial a few times, go up on the flight deck to look out over it. took the little tour boat over to it once.. Strangest thing at colors 8am they play the anthem from every countries ship in the harbor. took around 20 minutes if I recall.. even the Jap anthem... kinda sad
We had the honor of attending the December 7 ceremony about 10 years ago. There were still a few veterans of Pearl Harbor in attendance. Very glad to have been able to do that.
