I think you misunderstand what the Chinese intention is.
They do not want to plunge usA into the dark ages, because it is a viable, developed market. They would lose a major trading partner - and that is their main goal in life. I am not saying they are our friends, either. Just that Trump is sounding different than the last time around. His thinking on China seems to have evolved.
Nevertheless, there is a body of work that states that China wants to somehow overthrow USA, and the world - Which I believe is born from imperialist theory, and is actually kind of defunct. Something about overthrowing governments etc., which some others have been very active in pursuing. TBH the Chinese investors prefer stable governments that are run by locals.
Yes it is un-nerving to see them buying up lots of land, and so is Bill Gates, BTW. But in the end, it's what these people do with the land. One cannot tow it away, for example. In a functioning society there is a real estate market, and this means people can buy land. The regulator's problem is Where, and Why, and there should be some rules about Who. The fact that wealthy people are buying it, means it was available, So perhaps the problem lies with driving native land-owners off the land via financial shenanigans, or something.
Also, Trump is a builder. He loves big beautiful projects. So if he can swing a NS corridor in the Americas, connecting through Alaska to Russia, (with the help with China and Russia, to build a Big. Beautiful bridge, or tunnel), he will prolly do it. I don't know if that will happen, but maybe. Even with the best intentions such projects can cause massive suffering too. America's rail was built by foreigners - there are still songs about it.
